Steve Jobs, February 24, 1955 – October 5, 2011

Remembering that I’ll be dead soon is the most important tool I’ve ever encountered to help me make the big choices in life. Because almost everything — all external expectations, all pride, all fear of embarrassment or failure – these things just fall away in the face of death, leaving only what is truly important. Remembering that you are going to die is the best way I know to avoid the trap of thinking you have something to lose. You are already naked. There is no reason not to follow your heart.

    Hi Charles, Thanks for sharing this quote. As you may know, I’m getting ready to wade into the deep end where this advice will essential. Jobs was a great man and this quote is a gift of wisdom.

    Hot to rain on the parade but,
    Like a lot of what Steve Jobs did the quote is borrowed and he never gave credit. Reading the speach seems like a lot of nonsense and no substence.

    Remember that what little he did he did not do alone.

    It seems that Jobs’ Stanford speech was plagiarized by “the Ukrainian national security secretary” recently in a graduation speech, but the FT report I’ve linked to doesn’t seem to think it’s a terribly big issue…
